Maternal health

The Maternal Health Program brings together a team of clinicians and researchers who are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of mothers and their children.

The maternal health research group collaborates with consumers, health services and system partners, evaluating routine practices and implementing changes to ensure the provision of evidence-informed, person-centred care.

With expertise in clinical care delivery and co-design, our team addresses system challenges related to nutrition care, physical activity, and models of care. A national face-to-face online clinical education program has been translated to support women in achieving healthy weight gain during pregnancy, receiving national accreditation from the Australian College of Midwives.

Additionally, new risk-adjusted nutrition services have been established, offering low and high intensity resources within Metro North Health, demonstrating feasibility and positive health outcomes.

"Collaboration with consumers, health professionals, policy makers, community organisations, and industry partners is key in co-designing research projects and translating findings into practice and policy. The goal is to positively impact the lives of mothers and their children by enhancing access to care that improves metabolic health for women.
