This presentation will discuss self-harm and suicide in older adults, with a focus on practical aspects such as risk and protective factors, assessment and management. There will also be some consideration of the evidence for approaches to aftercare (coordinated follow-up after self-harm), service provision, and education and training.

Associate Professor Anne Ward
Associate Professor Anne Wand is a consultant psychiatrist, a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales. She is a senior staff specialist with Older Peoples’ Mental Health and Medical Lead for Mental Health Research in Sydney Local Health District. Anne is a clinician researcher whose PhD investigated self-harm and suicide in older adults. 

Associate Professor Ajay Macharouthu 
 Associate Professor Ajay Macharouthu currently works as a Staff Specialist in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry for Older Persons, ECT Director & Director of Training in Psychiatry, Cairns & Hinterland Hospital & Health Services. He is an adjunct Associate Professor at James Cook University, Cairns and the Deputy Chair of QDAF (Queensland Dementia Ageing Frailty) Network.
