GROUP 1 : AMS ENGAGEMENT Trial A Multimodal Intervention to Optimise Antimicrobial Use in Residential Aged Care Facilities

It is now widely accepted that excessive antibiotic use is resulting in the proliferation of resistant organisms, which is a global healthcare challenge. By using antibiotics judiciously, the risk of resistance is reduced. The AMS ENGAGEMENT trial aims to optimise antibiotic use in residential aged care facilities through the introduction of a multi-modal intervention bundle that includes interactive educational materials for nurses, outreach visits for general practitioners, and an antimicrobial stewardship team to drive practise change at each facility.

GROUP 2: Did you see the gorilla? Or how to put the informed in consented with behaviour economics?

The quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care are predicated on having the most relevant and up to date information available at the right time. Dynamic consent is an approach to informed consent that enables on-going engagement and communication between patients and the users and custodians of their data. In the Nudgethon 2021, we were tasked to think about how to design dynamic consent platforms that use behaviour nudges to achieve these objectives? The UQ CHSR’s team competed in this three-day challenge and brought home a trophy for their consumer engagement proposal powered by behaviour economic theories. The team will present the idea and hope to receive additional feedback and collaboration for further development.
