Health informatics

Health informatics studies the intersection of information and communication technology and health care delivery. Health Informatics has been defined as "the appropriate and innovative application of the concepts and technologies of the information age to improve health care and health".(Standards Australia).

Health Informatics is a multi-discplinary science as it bridges the technological and clinical domains.

Health Informatics has many sub-disciplines such telehealth, mHealth,  medical imaging informatics, healthcare terminology coding (e.g SNOMED), cybersecurity, and data analytics.

The increasing adoption of digital health strategies such electronic medical records, electronic health records, telehealth, mHealth, and digital medical imaging is both driving the need for health informatics reseach as well as providing an ecosystem for the innnovative uses of digital health.
